Kip Brennan to be Recalled

Got this one from Tom Liodice's blog.

Apparently, tough guy Kip Brennan will come up to the big club in time for the home-and-home against the Rangers on Thursday and Friday. This guy can flat out KO people.

Don't believe me?

Get ready for a tough couple games, Rangers!

Mike Mole Called Up

Sound Tigers goalie Mike Mole has been called up to the Islanders and participated in his first NHL practice this morning at Iceworks. He is expected to back up Wade Dubielewicz for the rest of the Islanders' season, as Joey MacDonald has been sent back down to help the Sound Tigers in their playoff race.

Welcome to the Isle, Mike Mole!

RUMOR: Comrie Out For Season (20%)

Heh, I know I have some work to do considering game reviews, but I'd rather not talk about that.

A hot Isles rumor now is that Mike Comrie will be out for the rest of the season for hip surgery. It was known that he had a flu, but a hip problem? Never heard that one.

Maybe, just maybe, whoever started this rumor saw something that said, "Isles' best player out for season with hip surgery." It's debatable who our best player is, but obviously in this situation he could be mistaken for DiPietro. But, I'm just speculating. This really interests me, because I really doubt he is hurt.

I can be wrong, of course.

Islanders vs. Rangers at Yankee Stadium 1/1/09- NOT DONE DEAL

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are the only words to explain how I feel right now. According to Al Trautwig, the Islanders and Rangers will faceoff in Yankee Stadium on New Year's Day next year. This will be the last professional sporting event held at the stadium, as the Yankees' season would end late this year.

UPDATE(8:38 AM)-- Well, you knew this was coming. Any chance Al Trautwig gets to piss off Islander fans, he'll take it. Now, I am told that it is still no where near a done deal. The idea of the game is still being greatly considered, but, like I said, no where near official. So, Trautwig screwed us up again.

According to John Dellapina's NY Daily News blog, Al Trautwig told Chris Botta to not tell the whole world about the game, and that he ACTUALLY said that a source told him an Isles - Rag$ game was still a possibility. Now, I cannot confirm this because I wasn't watching Hockey Night Live at the time of the "incident". So I'll see if I can get some other Isles fans to confirm this. Or maybe, there is a video of it. (Hey, YouTube or it didn't happen!)

And, NBC does not want the Isles in the game, because they don't have enough star-power.

Not enough star-power....Hmm....Quick, someone make Garth give Hossa and Redden a freakin' good deal!!!

Tuesday; The Okposo Era Begins

It is a fairly happy day in Islander Country today, as it was announced that Kyle Okposo has been called up from the Sound Tigers and will make his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.

Okposo, selected seventh overall by the Islanders in the 2006 NHL Draft, is considered one of the top prospects in hockey. After playing for Team USA at this year's World Junior Championships, the 6-foot, 200-pound wing left the University of Minnesota and signed a three-year contract with the Islanders on January 11. He started his pro career in the Islanders organization by playing for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In 29 games with the Sound Tigers, Okposo had 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points. He had an assist in Bridgeport's 4-2 over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday night.

"It's the right time to give Kyle the chance to show what he can do at the NHL level," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. "From the beginning we said that when it came to Kyle we would do what was best long-term for both him and our franchise. He has played well in Bridgeport and deserves a look. Our organization is very excited to see Kyle in an Islanders unifom, and I'm sure so are our fans."

Okposo, who turns 20 years old on April 16, will join the Islanders on Monday in time for practice, which is scheduled for noon at Islanders Iceworks in Syosset.

"My focus had been on playing well in the AHL and helping the Sound Tigers, so I didn't know when the call would come," said Okposo. "But now that it has, the excitement is off the charts. I just want to have a good practice on Monday and then I'll start thinking about playing a big game against the Maple Leafs in front of our fans on Tuesday. It's up to me to make the most of the opportunity."

In an interview with Ted Nolan, he said that Kyle would play on a line with Richard Park, and another youngster such as Blake Comeau or Jeff Tambellini.

The Future Is Here.

Isles Sign Jesse Joensuu

Okay, I know I reported this a week ago, but it never actually got done until today. The Islanders have signed prospect Jesse Joensuu to a 3-year entry-level contract that begins in the 2008-2009 season.

I'm pretty excited to see what he can do for Bridgeport. He needs to work on his skating, but other than that he is a solid prospect that can give a scoring boost to the team.

“The Islanders have worked with me every step of the way since they drafted me two years ago and have really helped my development,” said Joensuu. “Now that we have agreed on a contract, I’m very excited about starting my career in the Islanders organization and playing in North America.”

Good job by the Isles on this one. They picked a good prospect to sign up early.

I'll post a PGP for tomorrow's game a little bit later, so you can have time to soak this in. The PGP's have been completely re-vamped, and I'm sure you will like them!

What Just Happened?

Well, this is just a heads up to everyone, saying that I HAVE NOT abandoned this blog. I am NO WHERE close to doing that. At first, it was the winning streak that prevented me from posting. Now, I don't know what it is. I have somewhere around 10 game reviews to do (ouch), and I do want to get back to doing previews.

When you get to this [dead] time of the season, it is truly boring, and all I have left to do is previews and reviews. And those are my two least favorite things about the blog. I never realized making a more resourceful blog would require me to do more work. Well, obviously, I was wrong.

I updated at the Trade Deadline because, well, that was actually a FUN topic to cover. Once it turned 4:00 PM last Tuesday, I knew the deadline was officially over, and I was back to being bored. And that means, nothing to post about.

Okay, so if I am really bored, why did I make this post? Because of the Ranger/Islander game? No. Because of the playoff push (if that's what you would like to call it)? No. It is because (I will put this part in bold so that it stands out in this long post) Isles prospect Jesse Joensuu is expected to sign with the New York Islanders in the next few hours.

Well, that's some happy news before tonight's game. Hey, I think I'll do the game review tonight!

We'll see, we'll see...
