Isles Unveil 3rd Jersey

from islanders.nhl.com

"The Islanders unveiled their new alternate uniform Monday night at an Islanders Business Club event prior to the start of their game against the New York Rangers. The new uniform, which is reminiscent of the ones the Islanders donned in the mid-1970s, is royal blue with white numbers and letters, outlined in orange."

"It reminds me of the glory days," said Mike Curry of Milro Associates. "I like how it brings back the heritage of the team. It's like you're seeing the guys from the early days."

"One thing about the jersey that is different than the original from the 1970s is that the stick—within the Islanders logo—has four lines on it. This is to recognize the Islanders four Stanley Cup championships."

"I think the new jerseys are fantastic," said Bob Nystrom, a member of the original 1972 Islanders squad. "The colors really bring me back to our early teams. I think the fans are really going to buy into the jerseys because anybody who saw the team when we played, will appreciate the original colors. Plus, I like the subtle change they made to add another strip to the stick, signifying the four Cups."

"The jerseys are really nice," said Josh Bailey, who modeled one at the IBC event. "They're really cool to wear, especially for the young guys because it's a little bit like being part of the team's great tradition."
