Bill Guerin

Here is the third of the "New Islander" Reviews. Enjoy.

Bill Guerin was acquired by the Islanders on 7/5/07, the same day we signed Mike Comrie.

The 36 year-old is entering his 15th season as an NHL regular. Over his long career, he has played for the Devils, (91-98) , the Oilers, (98-01) , the Bruins, (01-02) , the Stars, (02-06) , and split the 06-07 season with the Blues and Sharks. For a Captain, he has been tossed around the league a bit, as the Isles would be his 7th team.

In the regular season, Bill has scored 364 goals and 355 assists in 1,026 games played. In the post-season, he has played 105 career games, scoring 28 goals and 22 assists. For those who won't bother to do the math, that is 392 goals and 377 assists in 1,131 games played. Looking at those stats, he wants the puck. You usually see more assists than goals, but not for Billy.

This year, he serves as the Islanders Captain. I expect him to score 35 goals and 24 assists. Last year, he scored 36 and put up 20 assists. He is getting up there in age, but that shouldn't stop him from scoring. Guerin and Comrie should be the ones getting the most goals this year, in my opinion. He is going to be playing at least two years of hockey on the Island, and then his career could be over. I expect him to retire happily, as a New York Islander.
