Colliton Called Up, Satan Out.

"Center Jeremy Colliton was recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on an emergency basis and joined the Islanders for practice at Iceworks this morning.

“This is an opportunity for me and I have to make the most of it,” said the 23-year old Colliton.

It is an opportunity Colliton has earned with his tenacity and perseverance after undergoing shoulder surgery last season. In 47 games with the Sound Tigers this season, Colliton has matched up against the opponents' top lines and has seen significant penalty killing time. He has six goals and three assists and is second on the Sound Tigers with two shorthanded goals.

Colliton played 19 games for the Islanders in the 2005-06 season and one game the following year. He has recorded one goal and one assist in the NHL.

The native of Blackie, Alberta was originally drafted by the Islanders in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft. In 158 career games over three seasons with the Sound Tigers, Colliton is 37-47-84. In junior, he was a member of Team Canada at the 2003 and 2004 World Junior Championships and was captain of the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League."

Sillinger Out 3 Weeks, Tambellini, Nielsen, Brennan Recalled

It was announced by head coach Ted Nolan, following the Islanders' grueling practice today at Iceworks, that Mike Sillinger will be out three weeks with a hip injury.

"You have to give Sillinger credit," said Nolan. "He's had this nagging injury for a while and he fought through it. But it's gotten to the point where he needs to get rest and heal. It's a big blow for us, losing our top faceoff man and one of our best penalty killers. We'll be without one of our leaders, so other guys are going to have to step up."

With Sillinger out of the lineup and Tim Jackman sent to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Islanders brass has recalled prospects Jeff Tambellini, the AHL's leading goal scorer with 29 and his centerman Frans Nielsen. Both are expected to play against the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks tomorrow at 7:05 pm at the Nassau Coliseum.

Tambellini has played in eight games this season with the Islanders, while Nielsen will be making his 2007-08 debut with the team, having played in 15 games with the Islanders last season.

"Jeff has been with this organization for three years now, so he knows what he has to do when he's up here," said Nolan. "He's now more comfortable with everyone and it should help that he'll be on a line with Frans. Jeff has proven he can perform in the AHL, so hopefully he can gain that same confidence up here. He needs to take that last step and grab a hold of it."

"Nielsen didn't have the best start to the season," continued Nolan. "But he turned his game around. Now he's one of the best forwards on Bridgeport. By keeping him with Jeff, we're hoping to see that same chemistry up here."

Also recalled from Bridgeport was Kip Brennan, who filled in for the flu-stricken Richard Park. Following the morning skate, Nolan was confident that Park would be well enough to play against the Ducks.

Today, the Islanders went through one of their most intense practices this season. For an hour, the team worked primarily on their neutral zone play and break outs. And to finish their practice, the players took part in a bag skate that left them all thoroughly exhausted.

"The urgency is there," said Nolan. "We're playing against the defending Stanley Cup champs and we need to rise to the occasion. Our play recently has reflected in our practices, at which we need to work harder. If you want to play hard, you need to work hard. We had a hard practice today, which is hopefully the first step to getting back on track."

NOTES FROM PRACTICE

Despite going up against more experienced players, Frans Nielsen more than held his own when practicing draws against Josef Vasicek and Andy Hilbert. Wing Blake Comeau also took part in the faceoff session
For the second year in a row, Frans Nielsen will play in his first NHL game of the season and meet the defending Stanley Cup champions. Last year, on January 6, Nielsen made his NHL debut and skated against the Carolina Hurricanes. Tomorrow, the Anaheim Ducks visit the Coliseum.
It is still unsure whether recently un-retired Teemu Selanne will make his season debut on Tuesday against the Islanders. Regardless, Ted Nolan said the Islanders will prepare as if he is dressing.
Nolan also indicated that six defensemen will skate in tomorrow's contest against the Anaheim Ducks.
Below are the defense pairings and line combinations that skated together in practice.
